RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011:
AWARD WINNING HOSPITALITY AT RUGBY WORLD CUP 2011

BACKGROUND

New Zealand delighted All Blacks fans to lift the Webb Ellis Trophy for the second time on home turf after squeezing past France in the final 8-7.

It was the largest sporting event ever held in New Zealand with more than 130,000 overseas fans attending the six-week tournament.

The 48 matches of the tournament were meant to be played in 13 venues across the country. However, an earthquake in February 2011 damaged the Christchurch stadium and its scheduled matches were moved to other venues, including two quarter-finals which were moved to Auckland.

STH Group was awarded the exclusive Travel and Hospitality rights for Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand following a competitive tender process undertaken by the International Rugby Board.

In 2008 we opened offices in New Zealand to help ensure that the development and management of the travel and hospitality programmes would be properly and professionally managed.

We launched the Official Corporate Hospitality Programme on 1 February 2010 and soon sales were surpassing all expectations.

With nine matches being played at Eden Park in Auckland, including the semi-finals and final, we built a stunning hospitality facility within the grounds.

The purpose-built Eden Park Pavilion featured a dramatic façade 50 metres wide and 20 metres high that looked like a rugby ball from the outside. Once inside the pavilion, the hospitality guests found themselves in an 85-metre atrium containing eight restaurants for fine dining and a stage for entertainment.

Our efforts won us the International Sports Event Management (ISEM) Award for best hospitality at a ceremony held at London’s Cumberland hotel the following year.

Our world class sports and hospitality services ensure spectators can completely immerse themselves in the passion and drama of the occasion and enjoy a shared experience they will remember for a lifetime.

STH is a partner that you can trust. With the strong backing of our shareholders Sodexo, the foundations of our business is secure, and their expertise is also called upon when required to further enhance the professionalism and expertise we bring.

We are industry leading, innovative and trustworthy, with a long and enviable track record of consistent excellence across some of the biggest sporting events in the world.
