A tradition since July 1839, the prestigious event has been running year after year, starting out as a joyous day for the locals featuring a funfair and amusements, hosted by the Mayor of Henley. As years passed, amateur rowing races were introduced, which then led on to be the main attraction.
After originally being asked all those years ago, many members of the Royal family have attended the event, making it a must-go-to do if you want to rub shoulders with the rich and famous, or fancy a glimpse of the Royals. The knockout races take place across six days of heats from Tuesday 27th June – Sunday 2nd July 2023, with the winners fighting it out in the final. With as many as 100 seven-minute races taking place each day, anyone can take part with several cup challenges designed for all abilities (this including competing schools). The comradery, sportsmanship and pure joy really does take over the old market town.
Which day is best to attend we hear you ask? All of them. With a lively crowd throughout the week, the atmosphere is always incredible, but the final is bound to be a nail-biting race.
