Argentina Edge Scotland in Nail-Biting Series Decider

Scotland found themselves 15 points ahead thanks to two tries each from Duhan van der Merwe and Ewan Ashman and they looked to be in control of the match. However, the hosts, buoyed by their 30,000 fans in Santiago del Estero, fought back with sustained pressure to snatch the series away from Scotland in dramatic fashion, thanks to a last-minute try from Edinburgh’s own Emiliano Boffelli. The winger then added the conversion to finish on a personal tally of 17 points to win the game and Test series for Argentina 34-31.
Scottish rugby fans came into the game on a high thanks to a dominant display in the previous match, winning by more than 20 points in what was described as a commanding victory by pundits. That, combined with their recent record against Argentina, having been undefeated in their past five encounters with the hosts going into the series, meant pre-match confidence was high. But a strong performance from Argentina in what was a pulsating finale to the series in South America meant Scotland must now regroup and show their infamous fighting spirit to come back once again, as tougher tests are sure to come.
It was good news for the other home nations however, as England and Ireland won their respective series against two of the worlds’ greatest teams in Australia and New Zealand. Wales rugby fans will also be encouraged by what they saw against the current world champions South Africa, ultimately losing but showing a great fighting performance throughout the series.
